Hey all you couch potatoes out there! I bet you think you “aren’t the athletic type” which is why you prefer a life of leisure? Well THINK AGAIN!
I am a couch potato . . . no, I don’t have television in my home but I am a bibliophile (book junkie) who spends more time on the sofa (reading) than anyone with satellite T.V.’s most expensive package!
I never thought I was athletic until some friends of mine challenged me to run a marathon. Me? I had just given birth to my fourth child, was quite overweight, and had no desire to run–I hated running. I preferred walking.
Then my friends introduced me to Jeff Galloway’s book Marathon: You Can Do It! which has a “beginner” training program that is mostly walking! No, really! I WALKED my body into marathon shape and I actually ran the entire 26.2 miles! It took just seven months and I lost weight, to boot. It was a life-changing experience for me.
If you don’t think you could ever run a marathon, try following Galloway’s training program for beginners and then we’ll chat. After a few weeks on that schedule, you will soon find yourself running without any difficulty or shortness of breath–yes, even you fellow couch potatoes!
By the way, I still spend a lot of time on the sofa (I’ll never stop reading!) but now that I’m in running shape I find that I can’t stay there as long as I used to . . . I just have to get up and DO something. That’s all Galloway’s fault!
